HAMMOND LAKE CIVIC ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTERJanuary 2006
Happy New Year! We wish all our members and friends the very best for 2006. Let us take a moment to look back on the 2005 Hammond Lake Civic Association accomplishments and thank some of the very special people that contributed to our community this past year. Thanks to the Beaudet family for their access lot contributions Jim Kenrick for the plantings and sign beautification at the Square Lake/East Hammond Lake location Diane Marion and her Perennial Smiles crew for plantings and hedge trimming at the other signs and association access lots Frank McLaughlin and his Super Nova’s for the fireworks, and his company Micro Biological Associates for the use of his laboratory for water quality testing The entire Hammond Lake Association Board for their countless hours of community service.
Goose Round Up was successful with the re-location of nearly 40 birds.
Water Quality Testing began the first week of May and continued into October. The Hammond Lake Association took 6 samples per week for 22 consecutive weeks. Our results indicate that the quality of the water is the best in our history of testing.
Aquatic plant growth appears to be under better control. Thanks to all the residents that curtailed their lawn fertilization. Please keep up the good work and do not fertilize your lawns, because when you do you fertilize the lake and grow plants and algae.
The Fall Corn Roast was a huge success. Lots of folks, great food, spirited conversations, more than a few laughs despite a few rain drops. Thanks to Dan Klempner for the great job of cooking and LaRosa Market for their donations and support.
Legal issues continue to plague us despite the Oakland County Circuit Court ruling in the Associations favor. The “Defendants” AKA “Hammond United” perpetrators are appealing Judge Colleen O’Brians decision and forcing us to retain council.
Fireworks were sensational. Unfortunately the Township (at the 11th hour) insisted that we purchase six million dollars of additional liability insurance. This cost was over and above the donation amount.
The Association Beach received 20 yards of new sand and the children loved it.
North Hammond Lake Road is scheduled to be re-paved this spring. The 2006 Annual Meeting is scheduled for Thursday May 4th. Beach gate keys and passes will be available at the meeting.
New residents please contact Dan Klempner at (248) 338-6844. He has something special for you.
Letter from the Treasurer2005 began with a healthy surplus of $7,145 in the bank. Unfortunately the year has ended with outstanding expenses of $7,260. Fireworks expenses were not covered by enough donations and legal fees were 3 times higher then expected or planned for. This means that half our expected 2006 revenue is already committed to last year’s expenses. 109 members paid dues and 11 guests contributed for revenue of $14,532. Fireworks contributions were $14,270. Ordinary expenses (no fireworks or legal) were $12,207. The 3 largest expenses were: Insurance - $4,033 Lawn-care and spring cleanup - $2,978 Beach maintenance - $1,210 (fallen tree and goose round-up included) Fireworks $14,270 was collected and paid out for fireworks. What it really cost: Fireworks $15,129 Insurance $ 1,477 (reduced from $4,812) Permit $ 250 Total $16,856 leaving $2,586 still due.
Legal Expenses The budget allocated $4,000. What it really cost: 2003 $ 2,922 2004 $ 3,663 2005 $14,144 3 year Total $20,729
In 2005 the case cost $10,887 and should have been over. They decided to appeal for an additional cost of $3,257. It has been a very difficult year and I want to thank you in advance for your continuing support. As always, please call if you have questions or comments.
