No Motors on Hammond Lake

There are no lots or subdivisions that are not subject to the deed restriction "No Motor".  This restriction applies to the 9 lots on Spinnaker Lane as well as all the other properties of the original Hammond Lake Estates.  The use of electric motors on Hammond Lake is counter to the purpose and intent of the original development and against the wishes of the vast majority of the residents of this community.  The use of motors on Hammond Lake will not be tolerated.

Goose Round Up

On Friday, 6/27 at 6:30 am,  your association conducted a very successful goose round up on our lake.  With a valid permit in possession and a licensed contractor's help, the Hammond Lake Civic Association captured and relocated (to another state) 35 Giant Canada Geese.  By the end of the operation only four (4) geese remained on Hammond Lake, having evaded capture. Thanks to the efforts of the Association and in particular to Judy Slavinski, Dan Klempner, Sid Young, and Tom Campau for their direct involvement, our lawns, beaches, and water quality will be much improved.

Special Thanks

Susan O'Toole of South Hammond Lake Drive for the beautiful planters at the beach, and to Mike and Diane Marion of Perennial Smiles (248) 755-2511 for their attention and additions to the entrance sign gardens.

Web Site

We now have our own URL thanks to the efforts of Elizabeth Stefanik-Messerly (ESM Designs) at (248) 225-6669.  The site is up and available for view at http://www.hammondlakeestates.com.  It is a work in progress and will allow us to better serve the community with up-to-date information.

Lake Water Quality

Always an on-going priority of HLCA with the help of Frank McLaughlin and the Lake Awareness Committee, we continue to test our lake water to insure that it is safe for swimmers and water sports use.  We have on file a recent report on the eutrophic condition of Hammond Lake that was conducted by a HLCA commissioned, State of Michigan certified, Limnologist.  This study confirmed the findings of Microbiological Associates, (Frank McLaughlin's company) that we need to pay close attention to the condition of our septic systems and not fertilize our lawns.  In doing so we can reduce the amount of nutrients being introduced into Hammond Lake and preserve its health and longevity.

Fish

Over the last 50+ years, a number of studies have been conducted by HLCA to determine the existing habitat and viability of Hammond Lake to support "Cold Water Game Fish" such as Lake Trout.  In 1960, 1,500, 6" to 7" Lake Trout were seeded in Hammond Lake and another 2,000, 5" to 6" Trout were released in our lake in 1961.  Subsequent studies found that without a flowing tributary (stream) these fish were unable to spawn and therefore did not survive in Hammond Lake.  Another factor to their demise was that despite the fact that our lake is deep enough (140') and cold enough, there is not enough oxygen in the water below the depth of 60' to support their existence.  We are an ideal body of water for species of fish that can tolerate both warm and cold water such as Bass, Ciscoes, Perch, Pike, Crappie, Blue Gill, and even Carp.  Our Bass population is very plentiful.  Good Fishing!

Lake/Off-Lake Access Privileges to Lake Access Lots #91 and #106

As per a unanimous vote of a quorum of the members of the Civic Association of Hammond Lake Estates, brought before the Annual Association meeting by Mr. John Cowe, seconded by Mr. Johnson, recorded by "acting secretary" M.G. Shane, and signed by D. L. Duston (Secretary), all "A" members (Lake Front Owners) be given "Equal access, and privileges to the beach lots".  This vote was held on October 29, 1959 during the Annual Association meeting held at the West Bloomfield Township hall on Orchard Lake Road.

Think about this...
