HAMMOND LAKE CIVIC ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER

September 2006

Attention Hammond Lake Swimmers

I have noticed that a number of you swim regularly across Hammond Lake.  While I applaud your diligence to keep in shape, the old lifeguard in e keep telling me how dangerous this is.  The first rule they teach you in life saving class is to never swim alone, especially if you are going to swim across a lake that is up to 175 feet deep.  We are extremely luck that we have never had an accident.  I would like to suggest that you swimmers use a swimming buoy of some kind.  Simply get a flotation device of some kind, even a simple inner tube, and tether it to yourself with a string while swimming.  That way, if you are tired or get a cramp, you can rest, and it won't get in your way while swimming.

E-Mails

We are trying to add emails to our upcoming new directory and would like to be able to contact all the residents about meetings, events, etc. via email, saving the association considerable postage.  Please note that the post office does not allow us to hand deliver announcements and put them into your mailboxes, and we have had complaints in the past about doing this.  Please get your emails to us by emailing them to:  loisklemp@yahoo.com.

Fireworks 2007

Planning for the 2007 fireworks show is underway.  Because of many last minute snags, the 2006 show had to be canceled.  In order to avert those problems for year 2007 the board is doing things a little differently.  Most plans will be in place by January.  All money will be collected before the May HLCA Annual Meeting.  How to proceed with the fireworks will be discussed at the annual meeting and will be determined upon the amount of funds collected for the display.

New Board Members / Help Wanted

We would like to invite the members of the community to take a more active roll relative to participation on the HLCA Board of Directors.  There are 2 current vacancies and two officers with terms ending within the year.  There is a real need for someone with administrative and/or secretarial experience (just basic computer skills).  Call any board member listed to express interest or for information to attend a future monthly meeting
